Philippe Borde was born and raised in Paris, France and has summered on Martha's Vineyard his whole life.
After studying architecture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Philippe moved to the USA (Los Angeles) where he pursued work in the music industry before settling to NYC in 2000 to found a production /recording studio in Brooklyn.
In 2005, he came to Martha's Vineyard to make music, but stayed on after being drawn in by the beauty, the quiet and the inspiring winters the Vineyard offers.
"One day I was painting a restored Victorian cottage and glanced down at my canvas drop cloth. I saw the possibilities of an actual painting manifesting directly on the cloth. On my downtime, using simple leftover house paint and other tools of my trade, I started to play around with images. After a few explorations, these paintings came alive for me. I continue to paint and with each canvas, I discover more about myself. I still love music and themes will find their way into my work and will always be incorporated into my life. Hopefully, you will enjoy these works as much as I do painting them."
In 2010, Philippe was the first prize recipient at the Martha's Vineyard All Island Art Show for his painting called "Foundation". In 2011, he won second prize for his painting called "Ecole Primaire" and a first prize for creativity for his painting called "The Text Generation".
Phiippe lives down-island, but his art hangs in homes in Paris, London, Martha's Vineyard and Boston.
